Speedcars Australia is proud to announce that the 85th Australian Speedcar Championship has been awarded to Hi-Tec Oils Speedway, Toowoomba (Queensland), with the blue-ribbon event set to be contested across Friday 5th March and Saturday 6th March 2027.
Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway is widely regarded as one of Queensland’s premier venues, with a strong history of hosting major speedway events and attracting fields from across Australia. It is a perfect host for the Australian Speedcar Championship, the longest running and the most prestigious title in Australian speedway which brings together elite Speedcar drivers and teams from Australia, New Zealand, and the United States for two nights of high-intensity competition, championship drama, and an unforgettable fan experience.
Across its long history, the Australian Speedcar Championship has been won by some of the sport’s most respected names — including Sir Jack Brabham, who won the title in 1948/49 — alongside multiple-time champions Andy McGavin and Ray Revell (five wins each), and modern-era standouts such as Adam Clarke, Warrenne Ekins, and Michael Figliomeni (four wins each). It also remains one of few championships where Australian, American, and New Zealand drivers have and can continue to write their name into the honour roll.
Toowoomba has already played host twice to the Australian Speedcar Championship, first in season 1994/95 where it was won by West Aussie Michael Figliomeni, and then in 2006/07 where American star Jerry Coons Jr took the win after a memorable battle to the finish line with NSW’s Mark Brown. That 06/07 story now carries an extra layer of meaning for fans, with Mark Brown being the father of Kaidon Brown, who became a three-time Australian Champion as of last weekend at Victoria's Heytesbury Stockfeeds Simpson Speedway.
Following the announcement at last week's 84th Australian Speedcar Championship Calcutta in Warrnambool, Speedcars Australia President Andy Pearce said the decision reflects the venue’s reputation for delivering first-class racing and a strong event experience.
“The Australian Speedcar Championship represents the very best of our division, and we’re excited to take the 85th running to Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway,” Pearce said. “Toowoomba Speedway has a proven track record of hosting major events and creating an atmosphere that competitors and fans genuinely look forward to. We can’t wait to see the country’s top Speedcar teams go head-to-head on March 5 and 6, 2027 — and to welcome the international talent that always adds something special to this championship.”
Further event information, including ticketing, schedules, and event updates, will be available via Toowoomba Speedway’s official channels, QSRA, and Speedcars Australia’s Australian Championship hub.
The popular Championship Calcutta will be hosted by Speedcars Australia’s local affiliated club, the Queensland Speedcar Racing Assos. (QSRA) on Thursday 4th of March 2027.
