Following our recent AGM survey—featuring responses from all states and roles in the sport—members and fans clearly identified their top priorities for the future of Speedcars Australia. Thanks to you, these data-backed insights have now directly shaped the following new initiatives developed at our recent AGM and national conference:
1. Celebrating Excellence: New National Honours
In response to widespread calls for greater recognition, Speedcars Australia has launched three prestigious new awards at the national level:
• Australian Speedcar Driver of the Year
• Australian Speedcar Rookie of the Year
• Australian Speedcar Team of the Year
Eligibility criteria and a tiered points system by event will ensure a fair and transparent process. Watch for more news on these annual programs as the structure and more is announced.
2. Digital Innovation: MyRacePass Partnership
Acknowledging the need for enhanced communication and streamlined administration, Speedcars Australia is partnering with MyRacePass from next season. This collaboration will modernise event management, support our clubs and teams, as well as boost social media and fan engagement—making it easier than ever for the entire Speedcar community to stay connected.
3. Cost Reduction Measures for a Sustainable Future
Survey participants made it clear that affordability is a top concern. Speedcars Australia is responding with practical measures:
a) Phased Introduction of Right Rear Control Tyres: Supported by the majority in annual rule change voting and the AGM survey, a control tyre plan will be phased in for season 26/27 to help reduce costs for teams while maintaining competitive racing.
b) Extended Trial of the Hyundai Theta 2 Engine into 25/26: By allowing more time for the dispensation of the Hyundai Theta 2 engine trial, we’re supporting innovation and a potentially more cost-effective option for the future.
4. Prioritising Our Premier Event:
Competitors, car-owners, sponsors, and fans asked us to resolve date clashes for our blue ribbon events, and what comes first is protecting and enhancing the prestige of our biggest annual event and the longest running title in the country; the Australian Speedcar Championship.
As a result, Speedcars Australia is implementing several key changes:
a) Administrative Rule Reform: Effective season 2026/2027, no other Speedcar events will be sanctioned in other states during Australian Speedcar Championship week, ensuring maximum participation and focus on our title.
b) Contract Changes: We’re working to lock in title contract upgrades that safeguard the full race distance and overall event quality.
c) Title Hosting Checklist and Guide: With the Australian title moving around the country, we've drafted a title checklist and guide to help host clubs plan for the event while also providing consistency and transparency on responsibilities.
d) Expanded Title Merchandise Model: Responding to the 100% positive fan feedback on our title merchandise this season, we’re considering broadening our merchandise offerings with even more variety and fresh designs to celebrate the championship experience.
5. Enhanced Funding
We’re providing direct funding to state titles and blue ribbon events around the country, and increasing prize money and tow money where possible to make it easier for more teams to compete and ensure participation is properly rewarded.
6. Growing Car Counts: National Feeder Pathway Model
Recognising the need to boost car counts and bring new competitors into the division, we're developing a national feeder pathway model. This initiative aims to make it easier for new and emerging drivers to enter the sport, strengthen ties with junior and other senior classes, and provide a clear progression for competitors—helping to ensure strong fields and a sustainable future for Speedcars across Australia.
A Community-Driven Future:
The above initiatives are a direct result of listening to and valuing the input of our members and supporters. Speedcars Australia remains committed to transparency, collaboration, and continuous improvement. We thank everyone who contributed their feedback and invite all members and fans to stay engaged as we shape the next chapter together.
